I’m Anxious Too Mom
Peek into anxiety a little deeper, then give this a try for at least a week to see if you love it as much as we do momma..
Anxiety
I’d been looking forward to it for WEEKS. And my first turn up, I went, limbo’d my little ass off, and started walking to the back of the line to await my next turn.
A teacher comes up to me to stop me and says I’m out.
“But I didn’t knock over the bar?”
“Your scrunchy touched the bar,” she says.
Now, it’s the 80s, so imagine the tenacity of this scrunchy. But still – I hadn’t knocked the bar down, so how could I be out? I still feel shitty about that moment. I even went back to her to confirm why I was out – and she didn’t budge.
“You’re out. Go sit down.”
When something inherently doesn’t make sense to you.. it’s damned near impossible for your brain to help you find a solution to it. And you fester. Confused, angry, mind whirling, and destroyed at how unfair it all is.
Until we just accept it.
“You’re out. Go sit down.”
Anxiety for me means I’m out of a lot of things – happiness and peace being at the fore front. And it’s awful when you finally sit down in an office and get asked, “Would you like me to give you a prescription?”
Now, I’m not a doctor, I’m not a counsellor, I’m not certified, stamped, or ever accused of being an expert on the subject – so this is obviously not to be taken as what to do INSTEAD of the help you can get from professionals.
But I am a mom. A mom who hit rock bottom and who’s anxiety was SO bad my body would shake incessantly and I started to think there was no way out. I couldn’t wrap my mind around it – I’d had anxiety before, but it seemed much more in my ‘head’. I could understand that I’d get myself worked up.
But this was different.
It was physical. There didn’t seem to be any reliable triggers – except that I was perpetually exhausted from a waking baby.
So here’s what I came to research, and more importantly LIVE BY. And I can say.. Momma? It saved my life.Â
Manifestations
Anxiety is Complex
It surfaces because of food issues, lifestyle issues, or even things that happened way back when that cause us to have these unshakeable fears – I look at something like the ‘limbo incident’ and cringe that somewhere deep down I still think so matter how well I actually do, I’ll lose.
It can also be a breathing problem.Â
And for me. Understanding breathing was the gift I so desperately needed to control the uncontrollable.
And now that I’ve been practicing, my breath can heal me in a matter of minutes. From the moment you try it – stick with it for a least a week momma, and if you keep at it for a month it’ll become more and more second nature.
Because here’s the kicker mom – you may not know what specifically is causing you to feel anxious (or maybe you do), but all the feelings of pain – physical, emotional, environmental – that your body feels, begin to ADD UP. And your body has a global response.
So think about all the little ways your body may be challenged :
- dealing with chemicals/colourings in food
- medications
- high-stress workouts
- food intolerances
- emotional rollercoasters
- mental fatigue
- “life” emergencies or big moments..
..and you get a BIG reaction from your body. Paul Chek mentions, on his video describing this technique, that two things – coffee and sugar – can have a huge implications with anxiety. Too much can really excite your system into an anxious response.
Relief – In Under 3 Minutes
This technique has three steps:
- Place your tongue behind your teeth on the roof of your mouth, and breath into your belly through your nose for 4 seconds.
- Hold the breath for 6 seconds – let the CO2 “calm” the body and stimulate your ‘Rest, Digest, and Recover’ system.
- Open your mouth. Exhale, feeling your belly contract, for 8 seconds, making a sound with your breath.

Remind yourself that you are ok.
Breathe in purifying oxygen.
Let the CO2 calm you down.
Breathe out all the ‘garbage’, let the universe turn this energy into something good.
You’re doing great momma.
