It’s really nice to blame a stressful work schedule, or family, or scientifically engineered super-fun and super-tasty food, or genetics, or whatever it is for you, for why you’re not loosing weight.
And all those things are real.
They bog you down and they keep the spiral of weight gain spiralling away..
But you know what it really is? Because all of those things I mentioned keep weight on EVERYONE.
But what it is for you is this:
PREPARATION. — And don’t just stop reading, even if you think you know what preparation means.
Preparation. Hazaaaa! Is your mind blown?
NO. OF COURSE NOT. You know this already, right? You would never go into something as important as say, your health, without being prepared – right?
Ok, so go a head and loose the weight. You’re all set now.
Except, why is it so hard to prepare? Because here’s the thing. You’ve spent a very long time learning to ‘prepare’ yourself for your day the way you do now. And, because its what you DO now, when things get tough, or you put on more weight, you just DO what you know HARDER – thinking if you could just focus on what you are doing more and do more of it, it’ll *finally* work.
Eeeeee. I’m here to tell you, that if something is not working? Doing it HARDER isn’t your answer. In fact, it’s just crazy. And it should leave you uninspired and feeling hopeless because that’s what doing something over and over that doesn’t work SHOULD make you feel!
But? Good news is.. there’s a super simple way out of feeling like this. And a couple of steps you can take right now. Want to know them?
- Look back at the week you just had. The slip-ups, the things that went well, the moments you wish you could take back, the moments you wish you could stay in forever..
- Can you think of 4 times during the week that something held you back from making choices that align with your health and fitness goals? Maybe it was an unexpected meeting at work, maybe it was dinner with a friend, maybe it was too little time for you when you are parenting 24/7? Think of 4 times. Write them down.
- Now think of one way you could’ve been more prepared to handle each situation just a little better than you did. For example, maybe you could have had some trail mix in your purse in the event of an unexpected meeting, or checked out the menu of the restaurant beforehand, or left out some snacks on your counter so you remembered to eat a bit better when the kids are creating chaos around you. Write them down.
- Take action right now so that those 4 things? CAN’T happen next week. And that’s it. You’re done.
Little by little these things add up. You don’t need to take on the world today – you can if you are ready for that;) – but you can take on having a snack in your purse. I’d say that’s totally do-able.
Everything is stressful when it seems impossible. That’s what stress is – a feeling of impossibility. So dial it down.. Break it open. Taking even one action makes things seem possible again.
If you know you have challenges and need some help? Go get some! If you are resisting getting some help? Dial it down. Break it open. And find out why. Because there is no day like today to start feeling like YOU are possible again. Spend some time with someone whose entire life is about helping people just like you. You don’t need to be an expert – but you’ll save yourself a whole lot of time if you find one. Why? Right now.. you may not even know the questions you need to ask!
Preparation is not just a matter of having a sports bra and a Shape magazine.. It’s a matter of knowledge.
Here are a few questions you may consider asking yourself if you want to loose weight:
- Do you know approximately how much food and what foods you are eating on a daily basis?
- Are you familiar with the kinds of foods that will facilitate fat loss for your body type, and when to eat them?
- Have you been doing the same type of workout over and over without getting any return for your efforts?
- Are you familiar with what types of workouts promote fat loss, and which type – like running – encourage your body to hold on to fat?
You certainly don’t need to become a health and fitness guru – but you do need to have a plan. When you are wondering when the perfect time is to have a map? Always choose now.
If you know what workout you are doing to do today, you’ll likely do it. If you are waiting for the clouds to part and present you with a workout sheet – ummm.. I don’t think it’ll happen. If you know how many meals you should eat today so that you’ll feel frigging awesome, you’ll likely try and eat them. If you don’t? You’ll resort to coffee and pre-packaged garbage. If you know that taking a moment to breathe will make you present, full of gratitude, and give you a chance to feel happiness in this moment right now? You’ll breathe..
These are the keys. This is what dropping the weight is. A shift in your mind that allows you truly identify with WHO you need to be, what you need to believe about YOURSELF, and address those judgements you make about being successful and what that takes so that you can actually just BE healthy.
You’ve spent a long time preparing for your current ‘normal’.
Spend some time preparing for a ‘new normal‘ that serves you NOW.
You GOT this.
